Community rules

Simple standards to keep Jersey Barter useful, local and comfortable for everyone.

Last updated 13 October 2026

Be honest

Describe the condition, limitations, timing and scope of what you offer. Use current photographs. Say when an item has faults or a service depends on experience you do not have.

Be kind and unpressured

Make clear offers, accept a “no”, and keep messages respectful. No harassment, discrimination, threats, sexual content, spam or repeated pressure to move a conversation elsewhere.

Keep it genuinely local

Use Jersey Barter only when the exchange can reasonably happen in Jersey. Choose a parish for discovery, but never publish a home address or another person's private details.

Keep it person to person

Jersey Barter is currently for private individuals making occasional personal exchanges. Do not post as a business, professional trader or commercial seller.

Keep risky items off the platform

No illegal, stolen, counterfeit, recalled, dangerous or improperly regulated goods or services. Do not list weapons, drugs or medicines, alcohol, tobacco or vapes, sexual services, money, crypto, gift cards, financial services, animals as goods, or anything that asks for banking access, passwords, codes or identity documents.

Use the private swap room carefully

Only accept when you genuinely want to explore the exchange. Agree timing, a safe place and the exact scope before meeting. Do not use messages to request money or sensitive information.

Report concerns

Use the report control on a listing or private swap. Reports are private and reviewed manually. For an urgent threat or immediate danger, contact the emergency services.

What happens after a breach

The Jersey Barter team may hide content, cancel access to an exchange, suspend an account or retain limited evidence needed to review a concern. Serious or repeated misuse may lead to permanent removal from Jersey Barter.
